About

Our Story

The Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands initiative came about from the increasing interest in the natural heritage of the region, and how Dumfries & Galloway is placed to be a significant part of the national and global response to the climate & nature crises. Support from partners including the Woodland Trust, Dumfries & Galloway Council and private donors allowed the recruitment of a project manager on a three-year contract to explore the establishment and role for the new organisation.

Our Focus

The focus is on deliverable and tangible projects in the region that work to provide a response to the crises but also act to showcase Dumfries & Galloway’s potential on the national stage. The ambition is to share learning along the way, giving anyone interested the opportunity to join the journey as we learn more about and protect the amazing natural heritage of South West Scotland. The Initiative is established as a membership organisation. Membership is free and means you won’t miss any updates – to become a member:
