Projects
The Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands Initiative is supporting a variety of projects across the region. The following pages will be kept up to date with progress:

D&G Tree Planting Grant Scheme
Grants of up to £1,000 available for native tree planting
Restoration of the Historic Wood of Keyr
Mapped in 1654, can this Oak Woodland be re-born?
Galloway Crab Apple Action
There is only one native apple in the UK (Malus Sylvestris), the crab apple. But it will hybridise with other – non-native – species and what we see growing might not be the true native crab apple.
Woodlands Plus
The ‘Woodlands Plus’ project aims to add employment, public access or biodiversity value to three woodland sites in the region, and inspire similar added value on other woodland creation projects.
Bennel Wood – Woodland Laboratory
A 13-hectare woodland laboratory exploring natural process and natural regeneration on a recently-felled woodland site
“The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second best time is now.”
