Can you help us re-connect native woodlands across Dumfries & Galloway? Have you got experience of finding the right tree for the right place and that tree delivering multiple benefits for landowners? We are advertising three £10,000 contracts, seeking people to help us over the next three months identify the best places for native woodland re-connection plans across the region.

Native Woodlands can get isolated and disconnected from their neighbours. This impacts the connectivity between the sites and reduces resilience of the habitat itself, and species that thrive in it. The ‘Wood Wide Network’ initiative, is a development project supported by the Nature Restoration Fund (Info: https://dgwoodlands.org.uk/dumfries-galloways-wood-wide-network-project-gets-underway/), exploring the opportunity to re-connect native woodlands across our region.
We are now advertising THREE contracts for work in the coming months, each up to £10,000 in value, seeking people to lead on the next step of the project which will work with landowners to understand the feasibility for the next steps.
The Contract opportunity document with context and all info is here: WOODLAND CONNECTIVITY CONTRACT OPPORTUNITY
This work is being led by Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands (DGW), working in partnership with a range of organisations. McNabb Laurie, DGW Manager, said:
“Woodland connectivity is a subject which supports resilience and the benefits delivered by native woodlands, while also reflecting the mosaic of land use we have in the region. This project allows us to proactively explore opportunities to re-connect native woodlands, but this can only work if it aligns with and fits a landowner’s own ambitions for their land. That’s where these contracts come in: exploring the theoretical and identifying the deliverable.
If you are interested in helping out in the coming months, please do take a look at the contract opportunity document and submit an expression of interest! We have tried to make it as easy as possible to throw your hat into the ring.”
For ease of geography and logistics, we are advertising the three contracts as ‘West’, Central’ and ‘East’.
Expressions of Interest are sought by 27th July @ 9am. Any queries in meantime, contact mcnabb.laurie@dgwoodlands.org.
This project is made possible thanks to support from the Nature Restoration Fund, with initial mapping support possible thanks to The Solway Coast & Marine Landscape Connections Project (SCAMP). This work will also align with other similar projects underway in the region, including the Buzzing Coastal Communities Pollinator project, and the Glenkens Nature Restoration project
