Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands gets a visit and support from Amey SW team

The Amey SW team recently travelled to Dumfries and Galloway to meet the Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands Team

Representing the SW team were Garry Head, SW Account Director, Christopher Weir, Principal Operations Manager, Tracy Smith, Principal Landscape Architect, and Gregg McIntosh, Arboricultural Project Manager.

During the visit, the team spent time with McNabb Laurie, DGW Manager, learning more about the fantastic work being delivered across the region to support local woodland initiatives. D&G Woodlands was nominated for the fund by Tracy Smith, recognising the positive impact of their work in the local community.

The team also met with Phil Dowling, Woodland Officer, and Sam Lomax, DGW Administrator, to hear further about their ongoing projects. The visit concluded with the presentation of a cheque for £1,250, representing the contribution for Q1 of 2025.

McNabb Laurie, DGW Manager, said:

Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands is a new charity working across the South West of Scotland. We are getting involved in a wide range of work, from native woodland creation and management through to forest schools and community engagement work. It is great to see a new generation of people falling in love with the heritage of our woodlands!

We are so grateful for support from Amey which will allow us to undertake school visits and other community work. Some people we work with will be planting their first ever tree and others might look at woodlands in a new way. We’ll also be working with Amey to explore how trees relate to infrastructure like roads and generally understanding the balance between running a road network and managing trees! Thank you! “
